about me

Once I left school at 16, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do as a career so I decided to attend college to do Media Studies. After completing my first year at college, I felt Media wasn’t for me and so I decided to study Photography instead and graduated with a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Photography. University wasn’t originally a part of my plan, however, I really enjoyed Photography so I decided to apply to a university to continue my studies.

I joined the University of East London to do my degree and within three years, graduated with a BA (Hons) Photography. 

Last year, I joined Plumm as an intern to work in the Marketing department alongside their team to assist with various projects from research to video editing projects. I really enjoyed getting to collaborate with the team, working on projects and learning about mental health. I also found the internship to be really valuable for many reasons, including helping me with my personal growth and increasing my confidence. From the beginning, the team were so kind and welcoming they made me feel like part of the family. 

After a couple of months, I was given the opportunity to join the team permanently as their Social Media Executive to work on all aspects of social media including marketing strategy, content creation, customer service and social media management. Although this role could sometimes be challenging, it came with endless possibilities. I loved that with this role I was able to bring my own creativity to the table and make the role my own by thinking out of the box and coming up creative ideas and concepts.

day to day

Working in a start-up means no day would ever be the same which made this role extremely exciting. An average day for me at Plumm would start with me first checking my to-do list to see what tasks I have on my agenda and prioritising what should be done first. I would then check social media to reply to comments or messages from customers and also to review analytics on post-performance. Next, I would meet with the (Marketing) team to discuss strategy, upcoming campaigns and report on any blockers I was facing. 

I would then begin working on my tasks for the day which would include working on the social media calendar for the upcoming months (i.e.) writing, planning & creating and editing videos and working with our graphic designer to go over design concepts and ideas for posts. Throughout the day I would keep checking social media to see if there is anything else that needs doing such as replying to messages or comments. I would also gather content from the team, write content and edit videos. Depending on the day, I would sometimes have more meetings throughout the afternoon. At the end of the day, I would check to make sure my tasks were completed. The last thing I would do before ending my day would be writing my to-do list for the following day.

The best thing about starting out as an intern gives you the opportunity to keep trying new things until you find something that works for you. For me, I enjoyed working with customers and wanted to take on a role that was more customer-centric as I like building relationships with customers. I discussed this with the leadership team at Plumm and was given the opportunity to move from the Marketing team to the Operations team as their Customer Service Executive.

In my current role, I ensure customers have an overall positive customer experience with Plumm by answering their queries and addressing & resolving any concerns they may have. I am really excited about this role as it is giving me the opportunity to try something completely new and to also work with a new team.

Overall, being at Plumm has been life-changing for me. I have not only been able to learn new skills and gain valuable experience, I’ve also had the wonderful opportunity to work with such an incredible and dedicated team. What I love most about Plumm is that everyone here is always willing to help out and support one another.
