Break free from the degree (if you want to)

Tevia studied law in not one country, but two!

Tevia made it as a lawyer but fancied a change, and that's ok! You don't have to take the traditional route after graduation to still work in the industry that you love. We chatted to Tevia about his experience.

Hold up, What are you doing now?
Right now, I'm a Legal and Compliance Recruitment Consultant at Rutherford in London.

But you're not from the UK originally?
No, I was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. I studied at the Uni there doing my under-grad and post-grad degrees in Law. I then worked for a bit and after qualifying as an attorney I realised I needed a bit of a change.

So you completely changed jobs at this point?
Nope, I moved to the UK and undertook a Masters in Law at the university of Kent!

Did it go badly then?
No, I loved it! I actually did quite well!

So why are you not a Lawyer now?
Well, even after all that studying, and moving to the UK, I decided that I wanted to see what else was out there and still wanted a bit of a change!

What happened next?
Just by luck I found myself at Rutherford and after meeting Jonathan, our Director, I felt that working at Rutherford was something that I really wanted to give a go. I've been here just over a year now and it's been a truly rewarding experience.

What do you love about working at Rutherford?
Each day is different, but for me my favourite part of the job is being as client facing as possible. I recently placed a candidate at one of our high frequency trading firms and I really enjoyed that experience of being there for the candidate right from the get go. It's great being the first point of contact and the person they come to.

So I'm guessing no regrets about not being a Lawyer?!
Working at Rutherford is a really rewarding career, a lot of my skills have been enhanced, especially in sales. I'm looking forward to many more rewarding experiences here!
